How ProMIS™ works
Realistic, contextual experience
ProMIS™uses real instruments held in a `normal' position with normal degrees of freedom. The surgeon has a more realistic experience - and does not learn inappropriate habits that can be associated with simulated instruments
The bodyform 'skin' simulates real ports and use of trocars - enabling a more complete learning experience
ProMIS™ provides a simulated endoscope camera view, providing a low-cost, effective simulation of endoscope camera placement and usage - with unlimited degrees of freedom
A hand-held camera (ProMISCam™) is also available (see below). This simulates the endoscopic view and enables team training
ProMISCam is a hand-held, real, end-view camera that enables a flexible, laparoscopic view of physical tasks in ProMIS. ProMISCam adds complexity to physical tasks and enables two people to use ProMIS at the same time (making for a more realistic experience). Users can choose to use ProMISCam or the fixed laparoscopic view that comes as standard with ProMIS. If ProMISCam is chosen, it is also tracked (as well as the two instruments) and the video that is recorded is the ProMISCam view.
ProMIS™accepts a range of instrument types (eg graspers and scissors) by multiple manufacturers enabling surgeons to practise on preferred instruments and on new instruments as they are introduced
The body form and visual display, combined with real instruments enables surgeons to train individually or in a team - simulating the Operating Room experience
Technology
