ProMIS™ surgical simulator
ProMIS™ is an innovative, award-winning simulator for learning the skills and techniques of minimally invasive surgery. ProMIS™ uniquely enables users to interact with virtual and physical models in the same unit while providing accurate, comprehensive feedback on performance. In validation studies, it has been consistently shown to perform better than pure virtual reality simulators (click here for more on Validation >>>)
And now, the newest iteration of ProMIS sets new standards for surgical simulation
Improved camera view: hand-held model laparoscope provides improved image quality and allows complete flexibility for positioning, zoom - and even team training
Improved port position and angle of entry delivers even greater realism and allows for different procedures to be practised
Tilt and stand allow for the bodyform to be adjusted to suit the user and the procedure
A greater 'operating space' allows for more and different procedures to be simulated ranging from General Surgery to ObGyn to Thoracic surgery
Improved Metrics reporting and Learning Management System
 Retains validated metrics
Retains ability to easily integrate existing curriculum - including FLS and local curriculum (using our Open Module and ContentCreationTool)
Retains 'mixed reality'/hybrid approach of using virtual reality and physical reality
Retains use of real instruments so that users practise with the same instruments they will use in the Operating Room

The ProMIS™ Curriculum is based on validated approaches to skill development and is designed to integrate easily into existing curricula.
Modules may use virtual or physical models; an Open Module is designed to make customization possible.
" ProMIS metrics are excellent predictors of scores in the standard FLS simulator."
Having been validated for use with the SAGES/ACS Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) program, ProMIS now provides an FLS Module.
Users simply insert FLS Tasks in ProMIS and get the standard ProMIS metrics and video recording on those Tasks.
ProMIS Critical Tasks
ProMIS offers a series of tasks that replicate the critical elements of specific procedures, including: LapNissen, Ectopic pregnancy, Anastomosis, LapCholecyst-ectomy, Prostatectomy.
With ProMIS LC, a surgeon performs a complete hand-assisted or fully laparoscopic Sigmoid Colectomy.
Realistic, contextual learning
ProMIS™allows one or more users to practice using real instruments held in a `normal' position with normal degrees of freedom: they operate on a manikin and use a laptop computer as a stacking unit view. Tasks may be physical or virtual (or a combination of both).

ProMIS analyses performance by tracking instruments and objects in 3-dimensional space. Metrics provide:
 Immediate, accurate feedback
Numeric data; graphical & video playback
 Based on validated performance indicators
ProMIS™ is designed to integrate existing curricula and to facilitate localization.
User records are stored and may be exported for group reports - or to incorporate into research projects. A LAN enables remote access.
ProMIS™ is simple to maintain and operate. And it is robust.
In 2004, Haptica won an Innovation of the Year award from the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons in the U.S., and a European IST Prize from the European Council of Applied Sciences, Technologies and Engineering and the EU Commission.
The effectiveness of the ProMIS™ system has been clinically validated by peer reviewed publications from experts in MIS, including leading researchers at Emory University, Imperial College, London and RCSI, Ireland.
