Simulator for Endometrial Ablation

“Microsulis and Haptica worked as a dynamic and highly motivated team under extreme time pressures to develop SimMEA in time for its successful world launch at the ISGE Conference this year.” Robert Barlow, UK Sales Director, Microsulis Medical

Simulator for Endometrial Ablation

At Haptica, we have been pioneering the use of simulators for high impact sales and marketing.
At the 2005 Congress of the International Society for Gynecologic Endoscopy, one of our customers launched the first simulator for endometrial ablation. This was developed to showcase the company's product and enable sales people to demonstrate the device in an easy-to-use, light, high-impact way. It enables a surgeon to 'try' the device, with the simulator replicating the read-outs and 'feel' of the device.

Challenge

The company has a highly successful and effective microwave ablation device. One of the challenges for the salesforce was demonstrating the device: the device itself comprises an endoscope with a large tower, and a demonstration required transportation of the device, some bureaucracy over installation to meet health and safety requirements and some coordination locally to arrange facilities to enable demonstration. And even then, the surgeon did not really get a `feel' for how the product might work in practice.

Solution

Haptica built a simulator comprising a neat, stylish display box and laptop computer with which the real instrument is demonstrated. The laptop screen replicates the display screen on the real device and enables a complete procedure to be illustrated.

Benefits

Sales personnel now have a portable, stylish simulator that enables them to demonstrate the functionality and effectiveness of the microwave ablation device simply and easily. Because demonstrations no longer need arrangements about delivering and securing a large piece of equipment, sales people can make more visits more effectively. And surgeons and hospitals essentially get to see and try the device before they buy it - increasing confidence and satisfaction for surgeons, hospital administrators and the salesforce.
