Single Incision Surgery
Recent trials of Single Incision Surgery (SIS) - where all instruments and camera are inserted via one port - is being offered as an alternative to multiple-port laparoscopic surgery.
Haptica has adapted its ProMIS Surgical Simulator to offer the first simulator for Single Incision Surgery (SIS): simply place any standard instruments through the port and get instant metrics on performance.
This means that users can now practise current ProMIS Basic Skills, FLS Tasks and other Modules & Procedures using either multiple-ports or single incision.
ProMIS’ Open Module allows researchers to place any Task in ProMIS and get metrics and a video of surgical proficiency—thus providing a unique method for assessing and observing the skills required for SIS.
At the 2009 SAGES Congress and APDS Meeting, Haptica conducted a mini-trial to compare surgical proficiency on SIS vs multi-port laparoscopy. Surgeons were asked to complete the SAGES FLS 'Dexterity Peg Board' Task twice: first using multiple ports, then using a single incision.
